Daylighting
Discovery Hydrovac’s daylighting services expose buried utilities to the light, letting your crew visually see all underground utilities before beginning a construction project. Stop the risk of a dig-in and potentially hurting both your equipment and crew by properly daylighting your dig site.
What Is Daylighting?
Daylighting is an excavation service that exposes—or brings “daylight”—to buried utilities. Discovery Hydrovac’s Subsurface Utility Location Services (also known as potholing or daylighting) uses a non-destructive, non-mechanical vacuum excavation technique to unearth and document subsurface utilities before your construction or excavation project begins. We provide the exact vertical location, type, and depth of underground utilities—minimizing the risk of damage to those utilities during a dig and keeping your crew safe.
Air & Hydro Excavation Daylighting
While mapping services like GPR are helpful in locating utilities without digging, it’s important for operators to physically see the underground utilities they’ll be working on or around as well. Our air and hydro excavation services easily and quickly daylight your dig site so your crew can visually locate those utilities.
Discovery Hydrovac uses vacuum excavation for our daylighting services. Using pressurized air or water to safely break up the soil and vacuuming up the debris into one of our Hydrovac tanks, we can daylight exploratory holes efficiently and without damaging the underground utilities.
